Life can become tiring when the everyday routine becomes a drag. The workload you used to handle with ease turns into a chore and you dodge any social activity that comes your way. You find it difficult to stay focused no matter how hard you try. Whether you’re a young professional building your career or a university student renting accommodation in London, here are three weekend getaways to give you a break and put you back on track.
Box Hill, Surrey
You might think that it’s the last thing that you need, but if you’re feeling tired, you need exercise. Biking isn’t the only exercise you can do in Box Hill, it is also home to a National Trust walk. You can take a hike on one of the trails or clifftops lined with ancient woodlands and landscaped gardens. A few hours surrounded by nature is the best way to reconnect with yourself. Box Hill is just 20 miles south of London; you can reach there by taking the train from London Waterloo to Box Hill & Westhumble.
Pick any town in the Cotswolds and go on a trip to see quaint country cottages in a bustling rural setting. The Cotswolds is dotted with fine stately homes, village churches, cricket greens and welcoming pubs. You can explore the Neolithic era with the remains of the Cotswold-Severn long barrows or the Bronze Age remains of the round barrows. Relaxation is only one of the many reasons to visit the Cotswolds. You can get there by train from London Paddington to Cheltenham via Gloucester, or drive up the M40 and A40 in less than two hours.
Nothing speaks of relaxation better than the world heritage spa city: Bath, Somerset. There are a lot of things to do in Bath that will improve your wellbeing. Indulge yourself by taking a dip in one of the natural hot springs rich in minerals, or unwind by visiting one of the city’s museums. As well as plenty of pubs and restaurants, the city is also a well-known shoppers’ paradise. There are also festivals, theatres, music and sports events happening year-round. Take the train from London Paddington to Bath station or drive along the M4.
No matter where you choose to go, the change will let you return home refreshed, spirits renewed, and ready to restart your life back in the city.
